JLC representatives had the pleasure of attending an informal interfaith event in the home of Lucille Cohen to mark the Succot festival. Large numbers of Christian ministers of various denominations as well as representatives from the Hindu community, came together to mark the festival. The level of representation at the event was extremely impressive; one minister had travelled for over two hours to attend thus highlighting the importance that religious leaders place on interfaith work today. What was even more remarkable was that the representatives from the different faith communities did not shy away from discussing sensitive issues, such as Synod’s endorsement of EAPPI. Jews from around the globe should take note of the interfaith work done by the Jewish Community in Manchester, and follow their example by engaging in fruitful discussion and building relationships with their friends from other communities.
