The Jewish Leadership Council has today announced that Maccabi GB has joined as its newest constituent member.
Maccabi GB plays a vital role within the community as the only provider of Jewish sport and educational activities in Great Britain.
Michael Ziff will sit on the Council as Chairman of Maccabi GB. Michael is Chief Executive of Barratts Trading Limited and Director of Town Centre Securities plc. In July 2011, he became the Chairman of the Maccabi Foundation and Maccabi GB, and Vice-President of the United Joint Israel Appeal. He is also President of the North and Yorkshire Business Forum and Director of the Leeds International Pianoforte Competition. He is also President of the UK Israel Business (formally BICC) and also a Trustee and Director of The Jerusalem Foundation. As a member of the Council of Leeds University since 2001, he was appointed Deputy Pro-Chancellor in January 2008.
Mr Ziff commented:
I am delighted that Maccabi GB has joined the Jewish Leadership Council. As the community’s leading sports provider we play a key role within the community and we look forward to being active members of the council.
JLC Chairman Mick Davis said:
It gives me immense pleasure to welcome Maccabi GB to the growing ranks of JLC member organisations. The timing could not be more opportune as we have just launched our youth commission, and as the impact of new equalities laws on faith based provision, such as Jewish sports clubs begins to become clearer. The steady growth of our membership base is testimony to the value that we are able to add to the work of our constituents.
