The JLC has been working to foster pro-Israel Christian support in the UK as unfortunately this is one of the arenas that have become a core problem with respect to the assault upon Israel’s legitimacy. The Church at Stirling in Scotland has been leading the way in Christian Israel advocacy and so the JLC has been developing a close relationship with it, offering support and gratitude for their work. A key event in the Church’s calendar is their annual Scottish Night to Celebrate Israel, which they have been organising since 2010. The JLC had the pleasure of attending this year’s celebration earlier this month. The evening gathered unprecedented numbers of Christians and Jews from across Scotland and beyond to raise a positive and united voice of love and support for Israel. It is a truly unique evening of rejoicing with musical pieces and keynote speakers in an environment that encourages the formation of new friendships and the strengthening of existing ones. Jeremy Newmark gave an electrifying speech on the night, receiving a standing ovation and much appreciation for his words of encouragement.
Jeremy told the Church:
By standing up here tonight, by celebrating Israel, by praying for Israel and by blessing Israel you are making an incredibly powerful statement.
In attendance on the night with us was Rivka Kidron, former advisor to Prime Minister Netanyahu on Diaspora Affairs and Benjamin Salamon from the Union of Jewish Students. Rivka also gave a moving speech and Deputy Ambassador Eitan Naeh read out a message from Prime Minister Netanyahu to the Church, which was extremely well received. There was representation at the evening from local Jewish communal organisation as well as the Board of Deputies for British Jews.
