As part of the Lead division’s Adam Science Foundation Leadership Programme the launch for Spotlight On… Israel, an evening for Adam Science current participants and alumni was hosted by Israeli Ambassador HE Daniel Taub at his residence. It was the perfect venue for such an occasion and Chair for the evening Simi Ben Hur, Co-Chair of Adam Science Alumni, commented that the group were very privileged to hear from Ambassador Taub and Michael Wegier, Chief Executive of UJIA, “the most well informed speakers on Israel currently in the UK”.
Aviva Carnell, a participant of this year’s programme, commented:
Sitting in the room I felt incredibly lucky that the State of Israel is in existence, and very comforted by all the emotions we shared about our own experiences there.
Michael Wegier spoke passionately about connecting to Israel through our Head, Heart and Hands; stressing the importance of connecting intellectually with Israel, rediscovering an innate love for Israel and demonstrating our connection to Israel through action. Ambassador Taub agreed that education was key. He spoke of the need for youth movements to educate young people about Israel, so that they can go away to university informed about the issues and in a better place to counter antisemitic or anti-Israel experiences. Fostering a deep engagement to Israel was a priority. Concluding thoughts were that we should remain optimistic – whilst peace is complicated, Israel still needs our support, and we should endeavour to find ways for all generations across the community to engage.
