On Monday 13th January 2014, GAMECHANGERS, a programme 5 years in the making, made its much anticipated start and it didn’t disappoint. Situated on the 23rd floor of the impressive Heron Tower the 16 programme participants met each other as a group for the first time, along with the GAMECHANGERS programme team, Chair Miles Webber and Programme Directors, Executive Director of Lead Nicky Goldman and Strategic Leadership Consultant Larry Shulman, together with newly appointed vice chair of Lead Debbie Fox, without whom this vital community initiative would never have become a reality. Unfortunately Sam Clifford, Lead Manager, was unable to attend but her contribution to the programme was immeasurable and it wouldn’t have been possible without her tireless work.
After a short introduction by the GAMECHANGERS team, the participants were asked to give a short presentation about themselves. This was a surprise sprung on them but unflustered, each individual presented fantastically well which gave further proof that they are the right people to become the future senior leaders of our community.
Later in the evening, the GAMECHANGERS were joined by current ‘Game Changers’ in the Jewish community Mick Davis, Nigel Layton and Simon Johnson. It was fantastic that on the very first night, 3 key individuals were willing to give their time to explain the benefit of the programme and what challenges the participants can expect to encounter along the way. Nigel Layton (Chair of Lead) explained how important the future leaders will be to the community and Simon Johnson spoke about each individual and what he believed they would each bring to the community at the end of the programme. Mick Davis discussed the challenges facing the community and the recent problems it has faced. Identifying the future leaders in front of him, he challenged them to rise to the occasion and find ways of improving the community as a whole. This was followed by a Q&A session which was very informative for both new and current GAMECHANGERS.
All 16 participants were then split into 4 groups where they discussed ‘The Challenges – Visioning 2020’ and then presented the ideas to the other groups. This bought an end to the hugely successful launch and provided a great buzz for the next session.
Nicky Goldman commented:
I am absolutely delighted that GAMECHANGERS has come to fruition. We have a truly inspirational group of people who have stepped up to take this forward and we look forward to working with them this year and beyond.
