Children are not the people of tomorrow, but are the people of today. They are entitled to be taken seriously..” –Janusz Korczak
Reshet, ‘network’ in Hebrew, is a small hub designed to further enhance informal Jewish education in the British Jewish community. Reshet is cross-communal, supporting Jewish youth work throughout the UK. Please have a look at the Reshet website for more information about our work. http://reshetnet.com/.
21st Century Teens Conference
The conference is the first of its kind for nearly 20 years. The aim is to bring together informal Jewish educators from Jewish schools, synagogues, youth movements and organisations to consider what it means to be a young person in the 21st century.
Hannah Brady (President, Union of Jewish Students) and Anthony Ashworth-Steen (UJIA Director of Informal Education and Israel Engagement) with a fantastic group of informal Jewish educators are leading the conference. Young people’s participation on Sunday 28th February is warmly welcomed.
Young people should always be seen and most definitely heard
Through a series of workshops, you (and your peers) will have opportunities to share your thoughts on connecting to the community, Israel engagement, technology and the pressures on young people. The impact on informal educators, rabbis and teachers will be immense. Be honest. Be open. Informal educators want to hear from you so they can best to meet the needs of young people. The conference will give you a chance to share what you enjoy about being part of the Jewish community (and wider society) as well as speaking about what simply doesn’t work for you.
What’s in it for you?
If you are year 9+, this is an opportunity for you to be truly empowered. To know that the entire community will listen to you and act on what you say. There are no gimmicks to entice you to participate, no iphones, ipad or free giveaways. We want you to come because you believe that your thoughts, voice and experience are incredibly important. This conference offers you a unique opportunity to speak about what it means to be a young Jewish person in the 21st century. Young people are essential to our community and we want you to be heard.
