The London Jewish Forum (LJF) advocates on behalf of Jewish Londoners across the city. Working with the Mayor’s office and the London Assembly, as well as Local Councils and other faith and ethnic communities, our goal is to promote on behalf of every Jew in the capital and make a difference in our communal life.
A key element of our strategy is to continue to deepen the relationship between London Jewry, the Mayor and City Hall. To this end, we work closely on matters of public policy while building good relationships with public officials whose responsibility it is to safeguard and develop our city. The LJF has done so over the years through “Think Jewish London” events, Mayoral hustings, and, of course, around the holiday of Chanukah.
Earlier this month, the London Jewish Forum was joined by Mayor Sadiq Khan along with over half of the members of the London Assembly, nearly 200 Councillors, leaders of faith groups and other partners from across the city at a Chanukah reception. We gathered in London’s Living Room on the top floor of City Hall and were addressed by the Mayor, the Deputy Chair of the London Assembly Jennette Arnold OBE, Keith Prince AM and HE Mark Regev, Ambassador of Israel to the UK. They spoke of the holiday’s historic victory of light over darkness and of freedom over oppression, about our commitment to carrying forward the message of hope and unity to today and about the significance of London – a cosmopolitan city, where groups from diverse backgrounds, religious and ethnic groups and political affiliations call home.
This event capped what has been a fantastic year for the London Jewish Forum. We have run an array of events, from marking the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Cable Street – an event that symbolised part of a proud and longstanding history of the Jewish community fighting racism and fascism, as well as holding an extremely well attended Jewish London Mayoral husting event where we launched our Jewish manifesto for the London Mayoral and Assembly Elections 2016.
The LJF is devoted to ensuring that London is open and will continue to work closely with our partners in City Hall and across our great city for the benefit of us all.
