On 5 March 2012, the Chief Rabbi Lord Sacks hosted the second ever gathering of Jewish peers. Following a precedent set last year the event took place to celebrate the festival of Purim.
The Chief Rabbi said: “The Purim reception is a fantastic opportunity for Jewish peers to come together for a l’chaim. The contribution Jewish peers have made to both the community as well as wider British society is something Anglo-Jewry can all be proud of, and it was wonderful to see so many Jewish peers join us at the reception.”
In addition to the Chief Rabbi, the tea was also addressed by Sir Trevor Chinn CVO, Vice-President of the JLC, and Vivian Wineman, Chair of the JLC Council of Membership and President of the Board of Deputies.
Sir Trevor reinforced the need for the Jewish Community to come together and communicate a strong message about its positive contribution to Britain, as well as the challenges it continues to face. He also took the opportunity to thank the Jewish Peers for their work in the upper house and their support for many of the concerns of the UK Jewish community.
Prominent attendees included Lord Glasman; Government Trade Adviser, Lord Brittan and Lord Levene.
