The lunch was hosted and chaired by Jonathan Goldstein. Balls was keen to meet with young leaders from the community. Balls is a longstanding friend of the Jewish Community and has always taken an active interest in our concerns, being an advocate for Israel and Jewish schooling while in government. He has continued to be supportive across a range of issues in opposition. Various issues were discussed, from the relationship between the Government and business; to the role of the voluntary sector. Balls answered a range of questions, from what he thinks the optimal size of the public sector should be, to what the difference between Labour’s One Nation and the Conservatives’ Big Society is. He shared his thoughts on a plethora of issues, including the future of coalition governments in the UK and the UK’s position in the EU.
