Samantha Benson

Samantha has been the Ivrit Curriculum and Training lead at the Jewish Curriculum Partnership since February 2009, initially working with UK Jewish primary schools. She now manages a team of consultants, and together they work in partnership with a broad range of Jewish primary and secondary schools, with the aim of enhancing Ivrit provision and attainment. This involves providing professional development opportunities and support for all Ivrit teachers and Heads of Department, developing curricula and resources in collaboration with Israeli Partners, CET, and working with several providers to improve initial teacher training options for Ivrit teachers. Samantha has a background in and passion for Modern Languages, with a BA Hons degree in French and Spanish, Interpreting and Translating. She spent 10 years in Israel, where she worked as a Hebrew to English translator, and gained her post-graduate senior teaching qualification as a teacher of English as a Second language to ages 7 to 16. Upon returning to the UK, she taught French and Special Needs. Before moving to JCP, she was the Modern Foreign Languages coordinator at Wolfson Hillel Primary school. As a non-native speaker who has managed to learn Ivrit successfully, she firmly believes that it is not an impossible dream!
