Earlier this month the JLC brought together two hundred teachers, head teachers and Governors from all sections of the community. The purpose of the gathering was to present the three year report of our Schools Strategy Implementation Group which was created to implement the recommendations of our 2008 Commission on Jewish Schools.
JLC Vice-President Leo Noe reported on key successes in the field of teacher training, Ivrit provision, our major project to re-structure school provision in NE London and most significantly an increase in uptake of over 10 per cent in mainstream London schools. The gathering heard praise for the Jewish faith school sector from Schools Minister Nick Gibb. An open conversation between the Chief Rabbi and the Minister provided an inspirational start to the school year. Board of Deputies President Vivian Wineman commented: "The work of this group is a tremendous example of the partnership between JLC, UJIA and the Board of Deputies for the benefit of the entire community".
In the next edition of this newsletter we will outline our plans for the creation of a new permanent Jewish Schools Partnership to continue and build upon the work of the past three years. We are pleased to announce that this new agency will be chaired by Jonathan Goldstein, Deputy Chief Executive of Heron International and a member of the New Leadership Network.
