Maccabi GB plays a vital role within the Community as the key provider of Jewish sport, health & well being and educational activities in Great Britain. In 2015, our variety of events engaged over 40,000 people and our Community Sports Days, ‘Ability, Not Disability’ Programme and Weekly Sports Clubs demonstrate our commitment to providing an outlet for Jewish people to get active. Our largest annual event is the ‘Maccabi GB Community Fun Run’, which celebrates its 10th Anniversary on 19th June 2016. It is a unique way for the members of the Community, from any and all religious observances, to come together and run for fantastic Jewish causes, whether they choose to run, jog or walk in the 1km, 5km, 5km Walk, 10km or Tri-Run. Last year a record-breaking 2,000 participants, 1,500 spectators and 48 communal organisations were involved, helping to raise £210,000 for charity.
We are the only organisation to engage over 1,300 young people each week in Schools across the UK and in total, 6,000 children attended a PE-Curriculum Class, Lunch Club, After School Session or School Sports Tournament last year. Maccabi GB represents the elite of Great Britain’s Jewish sportspeople as the governing body of ‘Team GB’ at international sporting events such as the Maccabiah Games, JCC Maccabi Games, European Maccabi Games and Pan American Maccabi Games. In 2017 we will be sending one of our largest ever delegations of over 450 athletes to Israel for the 20th Maccabiah Games. We also work closely with our affiliated clubs, sports leagues and the Community by providing quality youth projects such as the Leadership Programme and Streetwise. Our ethos is ‘Sport for everyone’ – encouraging the Community to participate in sport, regardless of age, gender or ability.
