Earlier today, twenty members of the New Leadership Network (NLN) active in the business world met with former Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Hazel Blears MP. Blears is currently Member of Parliament for Salford and Eccles. In addition to chairing Labour’s Social Action/Big Society Taskforce she is currently the only female member of the Joint Intelligence and Security Select Committee.
The roundtable discussion covered a range of issues, including responsible capitalism; the role of charities in civic society; Government proposals to cap tax relief on charitable donations; women in leadership, inclusion and integration; and community cohesion.
The meeting was chaired by Jonathan Goldstein, Deputy CEO of Heron International, a member of the New Leadership Network and Chair of the JLC’s newly created Partnership for Jewish Schools. Attendees included Jewish Care chairman Steven Lewis, Chair of the JLC Commission on Women in Leadership Laura Marks, and NLN convenors Ruth Green and Maurice Helfgott.
This was the first in a series of planned Policy Power Breakfasts organised by the NLN in partnership with the Jewish Leadership Council.
