At the heart of JLC’s PaJeS division is the Jewish Curriculum Partnership (JCP). JCP supports the work of Jewish Studies and Ivrit teachers in over 40 Jewish schools, providing training, delivering in-school support and developing curricula and resources.
Our latest Tefillah resource, Mesillot Lashem – Pathways to Hashem, was developed in response to requests from schools for help in making their daily Tefillah sessions a more meaningful and positive experience for primary school children. Written in partnership with teachers, this extensive multimedia resource aims to help children find personal connections to the prayers that they say and to give them good levels of knowledge, confidence and competence in this area. Launched in November in the presence of the Chief Rabbi, the resource uses powerful images of nature to capture children’s attention. It includes interactive text activities and animations to support children’s understanding of the prayers as well as slideshows, music, videos and animated stories that extend learning and encourage children to explore deeper concepts. Teachers at the launch conference attended a session on using music to enhance Tefillah, discussed how to address the social and emotional aspects of Tefillah, and looked at how to bring storytelling into their teaching. The conference was just the start of an ongoing professional development programme for Jewish Studies teachers which will include seminars and support in schools.
