The Zionist Federation of Great Britain And Ireland Joins The Jewish Leadership Council

The Jewish Leadership Council is delighted to welcome The Zionist Federation of Great Britain and Ireland (ZF) as a member. The Zionist Federation is an established part of British Jewry and becomes the 33rd member of the Jewish Leadership Council.

The ZF is an umbrella organisation for the Zionist movement in the United Kingdom, representing more than 30 organisations, and over 50,000 affiliated members. It works to stand up for Israel, promoting a space for dialogue, activism, and education about contemporary Zionism.

The JLC and The ZF have been working closely together in recent years, particularly on the 100th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration which takes place in 2017.

Sir Mick Davis, the Chairman of the Jewish Leadership Council said:

We are extremely pleased to welcome the Zionist Federation of Great Britain and Ireland to the Jewish Leadership Council. Our members represent all aspects of Jewish life, bringing with them a history of Israel activism which is an important part of our community. We are working to establish an infrastructure of activists and having the ZF on board will allow us to work alongside existing groups across the UK.

Paul Charney, Chairman of the Zionist Federation UK and Ireland said:

Having worked closely with the Jewish Leadership Council for a number of years, we are delighted to have been accepted as a member.

The JLC represents a broad spectrum of causes and concerns, and from today that will also include the many Israel-supporting groups that we represent. With headlines every day about the growing challenges we face, not least with Antisemitism masquerading as ‘anti-Zionism,’ we need to be working harder and smarter – and together. As we enter the centenary year of the Balfour Declaration, we’re proud to be bolstering the voices of British Zionism within the Jewish community.
