Julia Neuberger is Senior Rabbi at West London Synagogue and a cross bench member of the House of Lords. She chaired the review of the Liverpool Care Pathway, and before that the review of diversity in the judiciary, both for government. She also chaired the Commission on the future of volunteering for Volunteering England and was Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s Champion for Volunteering. She is passionate about issues around end of life, asylum, refugees and immigration, volunteering, and mental health, and she set up the Walter and Liesel Schwab Charitable Trust in memory of her parents, specifically to benefit young asylum seekers. She is a trustee of the Van Leer Foundation and of the Rayne Foundation, and broadcasts frequently.
