About Chanukah In London

The iconic Chanukiah at the heart of London will be returning for 2022, as will a lighting up of the landmark lastminute.com London Eye.

Come and see the giant Chanukiah lit up for Chanukah, the Jewish festival of lights, in Trafalgar Square – kindly sponsored and supported by the Mayor of London and GLA. The Chanukiah will be on display from Sunday 18 December until Monday 26 December, with one of the lights lit each day. The Chanukiah stands alongside the famous Christmas Tree that is donated annually to the British people by the Norwegian government.

The lastminute.com London Eye will also be lit up for a second year in a row to mark the festival of lights. The Eye will be lit on the 5th night of Chanukah on 22 December.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said:

“I’m proud of the tradition we have in London of hosting a giant Chanukiah in the heart of our city. It’s an opportunity to celebrate this joyous festival with the Jewish community and to reflect on the message of hope Chanukah brings. The positioning of the Chanukiah beside Trafalgar Square’s famous Christmas tree is a powerful demonstration of how we celebrate our city’s incredible diversity as we continue to build a better London for everyone.”

Imran Tauqir, General Manager of the lastminute.com London Eye, said:

“We’re thrilled to be marking the Jewish festival of lights again this year with another spectacular light-up representing the candles of the menorah.  We’re honoured to join with the Jewish community in embracing this annual celebration. We wish a very happy Chanukah to our guests, team and all those taking part in the holiday across London, the UK and beyond.”

Michelle Janes, Co-Chief Executive of the Jewish Leadership Council said:

“We’re delighted to be working again with the GLA and Mayor of London to bring the giant Chanukiah back to Trafalgar Square to share the lights of Chanukah with the rest of London. It is an important statement of our multicultural city that our Chanukiah stands alongside the iconic Christmas tree at this time of the year.

“We are also thrilled to be continuing our partnership with the lastminute.com London Eye to light up the wheel once again. This is another symbol of our city sharing in the joy and lights of Chanukah.”
