Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy MP Visits JW3

On Wednesday 25th June, the Jewish Leadership Council (JLC) was delighted to arrange for the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, The Rt Hon Lisa Nandy MP, to visit JW3, a cross-communal hub for Jewish arts, culture, family programming, social action, learning and much more.

During the visit, JW3 CEO Raymond Simonson gave the Secretary of State a guided tour of the vibrant community hub, showcasing how JW3 uses arts, culture and education to bring people together and build community.

Following the tour, the Secretary of State joined a roundtable discussion chaired by Marc Levy, JLC External Affairs Manager. The event brought together senior leaders from across the Jewish charitable sector including Mitzvah Day, the Jewish Volunteering Network, Maccabi GB, the Jewish Museum and the Board of Deputies of British Jews. Each organisation outlined their vital work in promoting volunteering, social action, education, heritage and sport.

Claudia Mendoza, CEO of the JLC, said:

“This visit reflects the JLC’s commitment to amplifying the voices of our member organisations and highlighting their work to senior decision-makers. We are grateful to the Secretary of State for taking the time to engage with our community and understand the impact our charities make alongside the challenges we are currently facing.”

Raymond Simonson, CEO of JW3, said:

“It was an honour to welcome the Secretary of State to JW3, for her to learn more about what makes us the home for Jewish culture and conversation in the UK. Our mission to create open and welcoming Jewish spaces that bring different people together and build community through arts, culture, education, and social action, fits squarely in with Lisa Nandy’s government remit. Her visit was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the breadth of our work and the vital role JW3 plays both in strengthening Jewish life in the UK and ensuring that Jewish culture enriches wider British society.”

The Rt Hon Lisa Nandy MP, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, added:

"Arts and culture are vital in telling our national and local stories, bringing people together, and promoting understanding across communities.

"Organisations like JW3 play a unique and essential role—not only as a hub for Jewish life, learning and celebration, but also as a welcoming space for people of all backgrounds. I was delighted to visit and witness the fantastic contribution of JW3 and to meet leaders from across the Jewish charity sector to discuss their important work."
